Tradition states that during the night between the 9th and the 10th of december
1294, the Holy House of Nazareth was transferred in flight by angels
from Palestine to the coast of the Marche Region.
According to legend,the
holy relic was placed by the angels on a hill of the dominions of the powerful city
of Recanati, in a forest of laurel trees, from which the name of Holy Mary of Laureto
and later on Loreto.
Loreto's main monuments occupy the four sides of the piazza: the college of the Jesuits, the Palazzo Apostolico, designed by Bramante and the Basilica of the Holy House.
